The choosing of what to make is, unsurprisingly, the first step.

Some of the considerations for this are seasonal, or involve special occasions throughout the year, but we also have a trending section on the website which lets us know what printable pages are in demand at a given moment. We also consider the usage, as well as what visitors search for or what printable pages they engage with. We try to keep the website fresh and up to date so that our printable collections can reflect this and be useful to everyone who visits.

This helps avoid making pages based on ideas that may seem cool, but aren’t very useful or timely. We want to make printable pages that are used, needed, and relevant in their purpose. We don’t want to just fill the website with pretty things. We want to fill it with useful things!

Planning Each Coloring Page

Once we’ve chosen our ideas, we begin to plan our page. The most important thing about planning is knowing what the main subject or feature of the page is, and making sure it isn’t lost or overwhelmed by other details or elements in the image. We also try to keep our coloring pages open to a wide audience, not necessarily simplistic, but appropriate for a number of ages. This is done by avoiding over complication and clutter that may be hard to color in.

Even though some of our printable pages are made in vector formats to make line clarity easier, we still consider how the finished image would look when printed. We want to avoid any issues with the lines getting lost in the image, the coloring areas being too small or difficult to manage when printed, etc. We take advantage of the digital tools we have to make sure that the page looks good on screen, but we also keep in mind how this would translate to actual paper. The tools are important, but the practicality of the page matters even more. We want people to enjoy coloring in our printable pages.

Preparing Print Ready PDF Files

Once we have drawn the page, we then begin to prepare it for print. This part of the process is very important, as our pages are intended to be printed out and used.

All of our coloring pages are made in Letter size, and we also verify that the file prints correctly on A4 paper with standard print settings. We want our printable pages to look their best regardless of the country, device, browser, or printer that is being used, so we check that the image and PDF file match, that the page displays correctly, and that the printable itself maintains its quality as a PDF.

The print preview is also checked on other devices, as a webpage should be accessible and display correctly whether it’s viewed on a mobile device, tablet, or computer screen. If any of these are unclear, incorrect, or of lower quality than expected, we go back to the previous steps and make adjustments before releasing the page.

Review Before Publishing

Before publishing any printable coloring page, we always review it for visual and publishing issues.

We look at the image itself, the lines, the design, the structure, and how easy it is to color in. We look for any potential problems, or any areas that might confuse the person intending to color the page, and we make any necessary adjustments. We also review the text around the image, making sure that the image description matches the image and is concise enough to be useful. We avoid using vague, irrelevant, or overblown descriptions.

We believe that it is important to keep our coloring pages up to date so that the entire collection maintains a high quality. As such, we update our older pages as well as our newer ones, in order to keep a consistently high standard of creativity and quality within our coloring page library.
