The cursive letter W is an excellent letter to use when learning to trace and write due to it having a lovely contrast of dips and a more expansive shape than many lowercase cursive letters.
The lowercase w requires enough space to make both dips but shouldn’t be too wide or the word containing it may be too stretched out.

The letter W is one of the most interesting letters of the alphabet as it developed from doubled U and V forms.
This is also why the English word for the letter is double u as the name is a reference to how the letter was formed.
It is quite interesting that the letter has kept the name despite the printed version of the letter now looking more like two V shapes.
Due to the lovely flow the letter has, the W is a fabulous letter to get kids to trace and practice forming.
It is also a good exercise to ensure they form both dips so the W has a good formation without appearing to be too broad.
